Meta Ads creative testing: a simple method to find which ad sells
In Meta Ads, the creative has become the most important lever you still have. Targeting is largely automated, Advantage+ decides placements and audience, and the algorithm picks who sees the ad based on what it sees in it. That means the ad itself does a big part of the targeting. If you don't test creatives constantly, you end up depending on two or three ads that wear out within weeks. Below is the simple method I use with the online stores I work with. 1. What to test first: the concept, not the button colour The most common mistake is testing small variations: another headline, another colour, another button text. The differences between them are usually small and hard to measure on a small store's budget. The test that changes results is the one between different concepts or angles : The problem: "Does your back hurt after 8 hours at the desk?" The result: "What your desk looks like after a month with our stand." Social proof: a real customer explaining why she bought a second time. The product in detail: materials, dimensions, what's in the parcel. The offer: gift set, free shipping, limited discount. The order I recommend: concept first, then format (video, static, carousel), then the first 3 seconds of the video (the hook), and only then headline and copy. Small variations only make sense once you have a concept that sells. 2. Test structure You have three options, depending on budget: The creative testing feature in Ads Manager. Meta added an ad-level option that lets you compare a few ads inside an existing campaign, with part of the budget set aside for the test, so each ad gets comparable delivery. It's the simplest option for a small store. An ad set dedicated to tests in the sales campaign, with 3 to 5 new ads. The downside is that the algorithm quickly pushes budget toward one ad, so the others may get too few impressions to judge. A separate testing campaign with a fixed budget, when you spend more than a few hundred euros a day and test many…
